FWISD Reschedules Academic Sweatshirt Scholar Event

(Thursday, February 25, 2021) --The Fort Worth ISD has rescheduled its campus Academic Sweatshirt Scholar events, originally scheduled for Friday, February 19, for next week after schools were closed this week because of inclement weather. The events will now take place, Friday, February 26.

The District will award the 2021 Academic Sweatshirt Scholarship recognition to 1,031 deserving students. FWISD is planning a virtual celebration at each District high school recognizing the scholastic excellence of this year’s recipients that will be shared on the District’s social media platforms. Recipients who attend classes virtually are invited to participate by visiting their home campus in person, February 26, to receive their academic sweatshirt and have a photo taken commemorating the achievement.

This Academic Sweatshirt Scholar program, sponsored by the District and Lockheed Martin, began in 1989 recognizing just 100 students. Since then, FWISD has recognized more than 10,000 students for academic excellence through the Academic Sweatshirt Scholar program.

The program, now in its 32nd year, was created to acknowledge students who complete their sophomore year with a GPA of 3.8 or higher. Students who earn the Academic Sweatshirt Scholar distinction receive a special sweatshirt that features the initials of the student’s school, the academic banner, and the student’s monogram on the sleeve.
