FWISD Mariachi Students Advance to UIL State Festival

Once again, Fort Worth ISD will be well represented at the State UIL Mariachi Festival, scheduled for Feb. 22-24 in Seguin.

Four FWISD ensembles advanced to the state competition following their regional contests. Carter-Riverside, North Side, Paschal, and South Hills high schools will all compete for a state title. As a 4A school, Carter-Riverside is scheduled for Feb. 22, while the other FWISD schools will compete Feb. 23-24.

Additionally, several students received individual accolades, with some advancing to the state solo and ensemble competition set for May in Austin. The recognized students are:

  • World Languages Institute Estudiantina - Rolando Rivera - Superior Rating (1)

  • North Side HS Non-Varsity Mariachi - Wendy Martinez - Superior Rating (1)

  • Carter-Riverside HS Varsity Mariachi - Samuel Ramirez - Superior Rating (1)*

  • Polytechnic HS Varsity Mariachi - Alphonso Rayford - Excellent Rating (2)

  • South Hills HS Varsity Mariachi - Ismael Sanchez - Superior Rating (1)*

  • Paschal HS Non-Varsity Mariachi - Alphonso Rayford - Excellent Rating (2)

  • North Side HS Varsity Mariachi - Ramon Nino - Superior Rating (1)*

  • Paschal HS Varsity Mariachi - Alphonso Rayford - Superior Rating (1)*
