Retired FWISD Teacher Attends State of the Union Address
Charmion Johnson Polk, a retired Fort Worth ISD educator, was the invited guest of U.S. Rep. Marc Veasey, TX-33, at Tuesday’s presidential State of the Union address in Washington, D.C., according to Rep. Veasey's office.
Ms. Polk founded King Kids of America, a Fort Worth-based youth program that taught participants of the nonprofit black history, speeches from the organization’s namesake, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., and hymns from the civil rights era.
“As a Dunbar graduate, Ms. Polk’s teachings have stuck with me to this day,” Rep. Veasey said in a recent statement.
Ms. Polk was expected to join Rep. Veasey for another engagement prior to the president’s speech.
