Ask Elsie
EDITOR'S NOTE: Ask Elsie is a column where Chief Financial Officer Elsie Schiro tackles employee queries, or in areas outside her purview, asks other District leaders to answer them.
Dear Elsie,
One of the benefits to working for any school district is to enroll your student in your school of your choosing for your child. This has been an insurmountable hurdle for me since accepting employment from FWISD. There seems to be no preference at all given to children of employees, and no one who can answer questions regarding this particular so-called benefit. Despite my sons earning the option to enroll in a school of choice on their own merits, and being the son of an employee, my youngest son was still waitlisted for one school, and I was told "NO" when I requested his 2nd option, with no consideration given to employee status.
Is this even considered a benefit for employees, or simply a nice box to check?
