FWISD Superintendent Joins Three Other School Leaders to Highlight a Perplexing Problem
Fort Worth, Texas – Fort Worth ISD Superintendent Kent P. Scribner has joined Dallas ISD Superintendent Michael Hinojosa, Plano ISD Superintendent Sara Bonser and Richardson ISD Superintendent Jeannie Stone to underscore a significant challenge facing student achievement both locally and in Texas as a whole.
In a co-signed letter, published in today’s online version of the Dallas Morning News, the four school leaders point out that a gradual increase in the number of economically disadvantaged students, both locally and state-wide, presents an inequity that will only serve to perpetuate generational household poverty.
“This is an issue bigger than just Fort Worth,” said Dr. Scribner. “The students who are in today’s classrooms are the potential drivers of our future economies, in Fort Worth, in Texas and across the country. We must provide these students with equitable, and not just equal, opportunities, for them to succeed.”
The four district leaders conclude that state funding must be provided to help solve this burgeoning dilemma.
The Dallas Morning News is scheduled to include the superintendents’ letter in the Sunday, May 6 print edition.
