SHHS Alum Semifinalist for College Football’s Biletnikoff Award
Fort Worth ISD community, support one of our very own, South Hills High School alumnus Tylan Wallace, who is a semifinalist for college football’s 2018 Biletnikoff Award.
Mr. Wallace, now a sophomore wide receiver at Oklahoma State University, is one of 11 semifinalists for the award that annually recognizes an outstanding college football receiver. The Biletnikoff Award is founded and sponsored by the Tallahassee Quarterback Club Foundation, Inc.
Fans can vote for their favorite receivers once daily at https://biletnikoffaward.com/fan-vote. An aggregate fan tally will count as one official vote for determining three award finalists, who will be named, Monday, November 19, and ultimately the winner, according to Biletnikoff Award officials.
The winner will be announced live during The Home Depot College Football Awards, December 6 on ESPN.
Previous award winners include NFL stars Calvin Johnson, Randy Moss, Michael Crabtree, Amari Cooper, and Larry Fitzgerald. The 2018 Biletnikoff winner will be presented with a trophy at the Biletnikoff Award Banquet, February 16, 2019 in Tallahassee, Florida.
“It’s just a real honor to be just even mentioned in the talk about that award,” Mr. Wallace said in a recent TV interview with Oklahoma City’s KFOR-TV. “I just take the opportunities when my number is called. Coach calls certain plays for certain players to take their shots, and I just try to take the opportunity and make the most of what I’ve got when they call my shot.”
A 2017 South Hills graduate, Mr. Wallace was quite the football standout throughout his FWISD high school career, and he’s now is making a name for himself in the college football arena.
As a member of the South Hills Scorpions football squad, Mr. Wallace, who wore No. 2, received the Under Armor/ ESPN All American Jersey Award and played in the 2017 Under Armor All-America Football Game, which featured the nation’s best senior high school football players. While a wide receiver at South Hills, he was also named to the Associated Press All State First Team in football, and he set school records in 4-by-100-meter relay, 4-by-200-meter relay and 200-meter relay track and field events.
OSU officials report that Mr. Wallace “leads the nation in 10-yard catches, 20-yard catches on passes thrown at least 15-yards downfield, yards per reception (min. 50 catches, 100-yard games and 200-yard games,” after 10 games.
“Wallace is averaging more catches and receiving yards per game than each of the past three Biletnikoff Award winners, and his average of 18.85 yards per catch is better than 13 of the past 15 Biletnikoff winners,” according to an OSU athletics media release.
