DHJ Students Compete in County Livestock Show, Youth Fair
Students from Fort Worth ISD’s Diamond Hill-Jarvis High School recently competed in the Tarrant County Junior Livestock Show and Youth Fair. Stephanie Pedraza, who earned first-place and reserve grand champion honors for her peacock crocheted blanket, was among the students representing DHJ in the event.
The 10th-grader also showed a market lamb in the livestock show.
The Tarrant County Junior Livestock Show and Youth Fair, held at Will Rogers Memorial Center, gives 4-H and FFA youth an opportunity to exhibit their livestock as well as showcase their horticulture, baked goods, leather craft, welding, photography, sewing and creative arts projects. Youth enrolled in county 4-H clubs and FFA chapters are eligible to compete. This year, 1,776 entries were presented by nearly 800 exhibitors.
Also representing the DHJ agriculture program were the following:
Estrella Franco finished sixth with her string art project, and Nayeli Carrillo’s entry placed in the top 35 out of hundreds in the rabbit competition.
Carla Rodriguez and Jennifer Reyes also entered the rabbit show, along with Nayeli for consideration in the single fryer class. Angelica Cordero entered a Havana doe in the rabbit show in the breeding category.
“I am proud of all my students [who] took the time and effort to work on their projects, both animals and youth fair items,” said Sabrina Harris, DHJ agriculture science teacher and FFA adviser.
The 2019 Tarrant County Junior Livestock Show and Youth Fair was held February 27-March 2.
