TXU Energy Donates Trees to 2 FWISD Schools
TXU Energy donated 20 trees to Fort Worth ISD’s Eastern Hills Elementary School and Eastern Hills High School. An educational seminar and ceremonial tree planting event was held on Tuesday, April 2 at Eastern Hills Elementary in partnership with the Texas Trees Foundation.
Crepe myrtle, bur oak, and Monterrey oak species were planted at the two schools, enhancing outdoor learning environments and boosting tree canopy coverage, according to TXU officials. The trees were selected by the Texas Trees Foundation for their fast-growth potential and ability to withstand extreme temperatures.
“TXU Energy is committed to environmental sustainability and helping the communities we serve through our Trees Across Texas program,” said Brad Watson, TXU Energy community affairs senior director. “These trees will not only beautify our local school campuses but will also enhance students’ physical activity and environmental awareness. We hope these trees will have a lasting impact on generations of students and members of the community.”
“Tree-planting efforts such as this are vital to enhancing school grounds and helping reduce urban heat island effects,” added Matt Grubisich, Texas Trees Foundation director of operations and urban forestry. “School campuses are some of the least-shaded areas in North Texas, and it’s important that we educate children on the importance of planting trees to create healthy learning environments and communities.”
TXU Energy, and its sister companies, have provided nearly 300,000 trees to various partner communities since 2002. The donated trees helped generate environmental savings and health benefits for municipalities and residents valued at approximately $37 million annually during the life of these trees.
“The Eastern Hills community is beyond thankful for TXU and the Texas Trees Foundation for investing in our students,” said Whitney Scott, Eastern Hills Elementary principal. “Their thoughtfulness and generous gift of trees will bring a lasting impact to our entire community! For that we will always be grateful!”
