Trimble Tech Culinary Team Advances to FCCLA National Conference
Students from Fort Worth ISD’s Trimble Tech High School are advancing to the FCCLA National Leadership Conference this summer in Anaheim, California.
FWISD sent students from Trimble Tech, North Side and South Hills high schools to compete at the Texas Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) State Leadership Conference April 4-6 in Dallas. Trimble Tech will represent Texas in the STAR Event Competition at the National Leadership Conference.
The students advancing to nationals and their respective contest are:
Applied Math for Culinary Management Occupational, first-place team -- Miriam Perez Vega, Orlando Hernandez Palacios, Maria Hernandez
Students at Trimble Tech left the state contest with multiple top-five finishes and scholarships in tow.
“And the journey continues – Trimble Tech FCCLA advances to Nationals! Trimble Tech Culinary Arts FCCLA students did a fabulous job representing both Trimble Tech and FWISD at the end of last week during the Texas State FCCLA Leadership Conference,” said Natasha Bruton, an FCCLA adviser at Trimble Tech. “All teams that advanced should be commended – they were all ranked in the top 12 in the state having almost double the number of competitors in each category compared to previous years.”
In addition to a culinary team qualifying for nationals, Trimble Tech received the following accolades:
- Applied Math for Culinary Management Occupational: Jose Adrian Ornelas (Team 2), fifth place
- Sports Nutrition Occupational: Sade Muhammad (Team 1), third place
- Maria Hernandez: Texas Tech Scholarship ($4,000 for four years) and Auguste Escoffier School of Culinary Arts scholarship ($5,000 for one year)
- Orlando Hernandez Palacios: Texas Tech Scholarship ($4,000 for four years) and Auguste Escoffier School of Culinary Arts scholarship ($5,000 for one year)
- Miriam Perez Vega: Texas Tech Scholarship ($4,000 for four years) and Auguste Escoffier School of Culinary Arts scholarship ($5,000 for one year)
- Sade Muhammad: Auguste Escoffier School of Culinary Arts scholarship ($2,000 for 1 year) and Johnson and Wales scholarship ($500 for four yrs.)
Ms. Bruton and Heather Kurima are the FCCLA advisers at Trimble Tech.
Students at North Side High also earned multiple top-five finishes and scholarships at state.
“We are proud of every student who competed,” said Marcum Tubbs, a FCCLA adviser at North Side High. “They gave their best, and that's all you can ask for. It is always great to see them recognized for their abilities and efforts."
The following North Side students received awards at competition:
- Culinary Arts Occupational: Ruby Esquivel, Jordan Cervantez, Raven Reyes (Team 2), fourth place
- Mystery Basket Occupational: Jisel Rodriguez, third place
- Serving Up Success Occupational: Julissa Herrera, second place; Alejandra Rodriguez, third place; Yaire Martinez, fifth place
- Serving Up Success Senior: Leilani Lopez, first place
- Jisel Rodriguez: $1,000 Auguste Escoffier School of Culinary Arts scholarship
- Leilani Lopez: $5,000 Auguste Escoffier School of Culinary Arts scholarship and $4,000 Texas Tech College of Human Sciences scholarship
- Julissa Herrera: $3,000 Auguste Escoffier School of Culinary Arts scholarship
- Alejandra Rodriguez: $1,000 Auguste Escoffier School of Culinary Arts scholarship
Mr. Tubbs, Kim Church and Claude Philpot are FCCLA advisers at North Side High.
One student represented South Hills in the Cupcake Battle Senior competition. Linda Rogers is the FCCLA adviser at South Hills.
