Melvinia Robinson, elementary core curriculum and innovation coordinator in the FWISD Mathematics Department, said that the bee “is designed to highlight the students’ love of math and to gain momentum in thinking about numbers in a flexible way.” The District bee originated from classroom Number Talks that help students “build confidence in their mathematical abilities and computational fluency, opening the doors for deeper math concepts and courses,” she previously said.
“The longest campus Math Bee lasted 3 hours,” Ms. Robinson said of this year’s contests. “We plan to have a District-level competition next year, where each campus winner competes for the FWISD title.”
Origo Education sponsored food for the ceremony, and Mentoring Minds donated goody bag for Math Bee winners.
