  • If it passes on November 3, the Voter Approval TRE would generate $44 M annually for our students. That $44M will be matched by the state with an additional $22M. So, for every dollar we raise the state puts in an additional 50-cents. So, we would raise $44M and the state would contribute $22M and by passing this TRE, we would receive $66M of extra revenue to invest in its students. .

    • Compensation for teachers allowing the District to be more competitive in attracting and retaining the best teachers
    • Safety, health, and security by providing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and additional measures to clean and sanitize campuses
    • Connectivity and Devices such as Chromebook computers, hot spots and additional methods to provide broadband internet access for students

State law requires that school districts seek voter approval to raise their tax rate above a prescribed amount.

In order to fund the 2020-2021 District budget, the Board adopted a tax rate $1.0864 for Maintenance and Operations (day-to-day costs) and a rate of $0.2920 for Interest and Sinking (debt service) resulting in a Total Tax Rate of $1.3784 per $100 of property valuation. The adopted tax rate for the 2019-2020 budget was $1.282 per $100 property valuation.

This proposed tax rate for 2020-2021 will effectively raise taxes for the Maintenance and Operations fund by 7.53%. The proposed I&S tax rate will not increase. For a $100,000 home that would mean an additional $96.50 in taxes.

Early voting begins Tuesday, October 13 and continues through Friday, October 30, 2020. Election day is Tuesday, November 3. The deadline for registering by mail to vote is (postmarked by) Monday, October 5, 2020. The deadline to register in person to vote is Monday, October 5, 2020.
