2019-2020 Available PTA Chair Positions

PTA Chair positions to fill – IF we do NOT have someone in the position, the activity/fundraiser/event will NOT happen.  Please consider helping the DMS community!  If you would like to sign up for a position or have a question, please email us at 

Bilingual Representative – responsible for translating all PTA flyers and communication. May also be called upon to live-translate meetings as needed.  The front office can help with this.

Fall Fun Fest Chair – planning the fall carnival, including, but not limited to, organizing the groups/clubs raising money, volunteers, food and entertainment.  (Past chairs Mikki Clinnin and Courtney Beames will be happy to go over everything with you.)

Book Fair Chair – organizing the fall and spring book fairs and coordinating volunteers.  (Past chair Sarah Mason will be happy to go over all of this with you.)

Spirit Shop Chair – procuring and maintaining DMS merchandise within the approved DMS Logo Standards. In addition, the Chair must assist the 3rd Vice President in developing membership incentive items, create and distribute all order forms, and coordinate a minimum of two in-person opportunities for parents to purchase items onsite – usually one of the in-person opportunities is Open House. 

Teacher Appreciation Chair – organizing the teacher/staff breakfast the week before school starts, organizing the “teacher favorites” database, organize and distribute monthly treat baskets, coordinate winter appreciation activities, and coordinate Teacher Appreciation Week in the spring, including a catered luncheon for faculty and staff.  SPOIL OUR WONDERFUL FACULTY AND STAFF!  This job is so much fun!!

Family Nights Chair – planning family-friendly, off-campus social events. These may include restaurant nights and skate nights.  The students love Skate Night!!

Middle School Dance Chair – coordinating all middle school dances, including, but not limited to, working with student committees to decide themes, collect fees, purchase refreshments, décor and DJ services.  This would be great for a middle school parent!

Garden Chair – coordinating access to the gardens, as well as planning needed garden work. Primary function is to support teachers in their roles in the outdoor learning garden spaces, and to facilitate work days with other volunteers and organizations.  (Kat Phillips, current Garden Chair, will be happy to help with the transition.)

5th/8th Grade Promotions Chair – organizing 5th and 8th grade promotion ceremonies and/or receptions, including, but not limited to, refreshments, decorations, shirts, gifts and awards.  (This could be shared between one 5th grade parent and one 8th grade parent!)

Yearbook Chair – organizing and assisting student committees in formatting, designing, selling, and distributing the yearbook.

Healthy Lifestyle Chair – promote health initiatives on the DMS campus. The chair shall work with its subcommittee to coordinate volunteers for the elementary and middle school field days, promote and plan the Dragon Dash, and coordinate a Walking School Bus event (minimum twice a year) with coaches and principal.  (You work A LOT with the school’s SWAT committee and Coach Williams and Coach Clementson.)

Community Liaison – work with the Teacher Social Committee and the principal to seek donations and support for the faculty and staff.
