Superintendent Statement Regarding Continued Closure of Schools

Fort Worth ISD Superintendent Kent Scribner is in agreement with Governor Greg Abbott’s announcement today that schools should remain closed for the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year.

“We applaud Gov. Abbott for following the advice of his medical experts in understanding the vulnerability of our children, our teachers and staff, and our parents when they are in close proximity in classroom environments. We are very encouraged with how teachers, students and parents have rallied to engage in the learning process through our Learning at Home curriculum. We will continue that learning process for the remainder of the school year. We look forward to working closely with Commissioner Mike Morath and the Texas Education Agency in determining how we can move forward with continued learning opportunities, such as summer school, and how we can apply lessons we have learned in recent weeks to our anticipated reopening of schools in the fall.”

The Fort Worth ISD school year is scheduled to conclude on May 28 with teachers scheduled to work through May 29.
