STEERS Girls Basketball

Congratulations to the varsity girls basketball team for fighting through some challenges and beating Southwest on Tuesday night by TWO points! Due to many factors, we played our district game with four varsity and three JV girls. This was a huge win for us during a difficult time. Shout out to Junior guard Shelby Hart for her ball-handling and high point of 9 points.

Friday we play at Home vs Polytech. It is Teacher Appreciation Night. Please join us (in the outside gym) to cheer on both JV and Varsity at 6:00/7:30 PM. They should be fun games to watch and good for social distancing.

Our basketball girls go into district this Tuesday night against South Hills with an 11-5 record. This is, by far, the best start to the season for our girls basketball program in years.
Last week, we beat Castleberry with sharp shooting by senior Jahtziri Valdez coming through strong with a high point of 20 points. She made 6 for 6 free throws down the stretch to keep us in the lead.
On Friday night, we took on Carter Riverside, and senior Dora Leija took the reins for another win. She put up SIX 3-pointers IN A ROW in the 3rd quarter and finished with a team high of 30 points. She broke her own record and recorded EIGHT 3-pointers for the night!
Also, we are partnering with Ms. Frazier's CFA Leadership Academy and collecting toys for Cook Children's Hospital for our annual Toy Drive. Please bring new, unwrapped toys to C104 (Frazier), C213 (Schweikhard), the gym...or any girls basketball player.
Our Varsity Girls Basketball Team took home another 3rd place finish in an even tougher tournament this weekend in Venus. We defeated Castleberry, Heritage Christian, and Lake Worth (again).
Dora Leija put up some hot shot shooting with 18 points in two different games. Vianey Facundo led the way in another two games with 13 and 15 points.
We had an interesting Tuesday night of basketball at North Side. Boys and girls played a double header against YWLA and Carter Riverside.
Varsity Girls won 39-16 vs YWLA with balanced scoring by Jahtziri Valdez with 10, Shelby Hart and Alex Ponce with 9 a piece.
JV Girls dominated YWLA 42-8. They are 3-0 for the season! They came back from behind and beat Paschal last week by ONE POINT!
Stay tuned for a Piece of History by Coach Harrington with their results against Carter Riverside.
