Fort Worth ISD Student-Athletes to Compete at State Track & Field Meet

The 2023 UIL State Track & Field Meet takes place May 11-13 at Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin. Fort Worth ISD is sending student-athletes from Dunbar, YWLA, Western Hills, Arlington Heights and O.D. Wyatt to compete at the State Track & Field Meet. 


Dunbar’s Girls 4x100 M Relay team of Akaysha Stephen, Kalani Lawson, Mya Kindles and Trinity Braziel-Davis qualified after placing second in the regional qualifier. Event 403 will take place after 5 p.m. on Thursday, May 11 and the girls will run in lane eight.


Stephen, Lawson, Kindles and Braziel-Davis also qualified for Dunbar in the 4x200 M Relay, placing second in the regional qualifier. Event 411 will take place on Thursday, May 11 and the girls are back in lane eight for this event. Lawson will compete in the Girls 100 Meter Hurdles after winning Region I with a time of 14.11. She competes in Event 407 from lane six. Also on Thursday, Lawson competes in the Girls Long Jump after finishing in third place in the regional qualifier. 


YWLA’s Peggy Carr placed first in discus at the regional meet to qualify for the state meet for the second year in a row. Last year, Carr became the first YWLA student-athlete to compete at the state meet. Western Hills’ Aaron Martin qualified for the Boys 100 Meter Dash with a time of 10.73. Martin competes in Event 410 Thursday. 


In 5A, Alleah Krote set an Arlington Heights school record in Triple Jump at 40-11.5 to qualify for the Girls Triple Jump. She will compete in Event 533 on Friday, May 12. O.D. Wyatt’s Malik Franklin set the best Boys 400 Meter Dash time across all four regions to qualify for the event. Franklin’s time of 47.56 was nearly a second better than Geogetown’s Jack McDaniel in the regional qualifier.
