Trustee Christene Moss to Host an Evening of Critical Conversations for Local Community
The public is invited to attend a May 30 community meeting called “Critical Conversations: Connecting with Our Community.” The gathering will be held from 6:30 – 8:15 p.m. in the Dunbar High School cafeteria, and light refreshments will be served. The school is located at 5700 Ramey, Fort Worth, 76112.
Fort Worth ISD Board of Education Trustee Christene Moss, Superintendent Dr. Kent P. Scribner, Chief of Secondary Schools Cherie Washington and Chief of Equity and Excellence Sherry Breed will discuss a variety of topics of interest to parents and community members but will primarily use the evening as an opportunity to listen.
“We want to hear from our community to gain new perspective and learn about ideas for transforming this area of Fort Worth,” Mrs. Moss said. “Listening is so important and we want attendees to know that their opinion matters. That is why we are calling this event Critical Conversations because it is critical to hear from people who live, work and attend school in this community.”
Community members will be encouraged to share their thoughts and ideas of what they believe will be helpful ways to support students with the goal of reducing suspensions and building school-community relationships. Attendees will hear about preliminary STAAR scores, as well as the Lone Star Governance work the school board trustees are engaged in to address excellence, efficiency and equity with a focus on improving student outcomes. Lone Star Governance is a training initiative from the Texas Education Agency governance division that provides a continuous improvement model for governing teams to intensively focus on improving student outcomes. The evening is an opportunity for attendees to share concerns and ideas to help shape future District plans and decisions that impact students and families.
