Eastern Hills ES Opens Kid-Designed Multi-Sport Court
Fort Worth ISD’s Eastern Hills Elementary School recently cut the ribbon on a new outdoor multi-sport complex.
Volunteers from the school and UnitedHealthcare spent September 28-30 building the new, kid-designed court. Installed inside a donated city tennis court, adjacent to the school, the space can be used for volleyball, basketball and futsal play.
The court is the result of a grant awarded to Eastern Hills Elementary by KABOOM!, a national nonprofit focused on achieving playspace equity for youth. Funded by partner UnitedHealthcare, the project provides a state-of-the-art new multi-sport court for hundreds of Eastern Hills Elementary students as well as the greater community.
Tobi Jackson, FWISD Board of Education president, UnitedHealthcare CEO Jeffrey Maddox and KABOOM! Community Build Manager Derrick Dixon joined Eastern Hills Elementary Principal Whitney Scott, her staff and students and UnitedHealthcare volunteers for the September 30 ribbon cutting.

The new multi-sport court is intended to operate as a central gathering place for celebrations, reunions and events of all kinds for the entire Eastern Hills community. In July, Eastern Hills Elementary students created drawings of their dream playspaces for project organizers. Their ideas were integrated into the new multi-sport court design. Community members have been deeply involved throughout the process, all the way from design to installation.
The project is a part of UnitedHealthcare’s “Do Good. Live Well.” employee volunteer initiative focused on inspiring volunteerism and helping people across the country live healthier lives.
