Fort Worth Sister Cities Accepts Applications for Spring, Summer Youth Exchange Programs
Fort Worth Sister Cities is accepting applications from students, former and current teachers interested in participating in the nonprofit’s spring and summer youth exchange programs.
Interested former and current teachers who would like to become a delegation leader on spring and summer exchanges to Fort Worth sister cities in China, France, Indonesia, Italy, Germany, Hungary, Mexico and Japan are encouraged to apply for the program no later than Friday, September 28.
Current high school students with interest in participating in the youth exchange programs must submit an application no later than Friday, October 19.
Fort Worth Sister Cities youth exchange programs are slated for March, June, July and August 2019. A youth exchange to Guiyang, China, is slated for June 2020. Teachers and youth participating in the program will stay with host families, however, some exchanges are slated to spend one night in a youth hostel.
Delegation Leaders
Adult delegation leaders will be responsible for:
- A $350 program fee if selected to participate. Expenses for travel, with the exception of the program fee, host family gifts, luggage, some meals and some miscellaneous costs is provided.
- Supervising between eight to 20 middle and or high school students on one of Fort Worth Sister Cities eight exchange trips;
- Recruiting five students to apply for an exchange program, and if they do, the required $350 program fee is refunded;
- Coordinate monthly orientations to prepare students;
- Must participate in student interviews October 30- November 4 to select youth ambassadors for the exchange programs;
- Host Harashin teacher scholars visiting Fort Worth to plan and implement the local program for the Japan exchange. Delegation leaders will be required to participate in all activities during the scholars’ visit;
- “Ensure an educational, memorable, fun and successful exchange for all,” according to the Fort Worth Sister Cities website.
Prospective delegation leaders will be interviewed from 5 to 6 p.m. October 8 in the Sister Cities Conference Room.
Youth Ambassador Exchanges
Students selected as a youth ambassador for one of the eight exchanges will have an opportunity, according to Fort Worth Sister Cities International, to:
- Participate in a U.S. Department of State recognized program;
- Meet local officials in Fort Worth and the exchange city they’re visiting;
- “Volunteer on projects emphasizing global community service;”
- Share Texas culture and promote Fort Worth abroad;
- “Explore and gain an understanding of different cultures while making life-lasting friendships.”
Approximate exchange costs ranges from $1,500 to $3,800.
Three scholarship opportunities are available for students participating in the exchange program.
Students will be required to submit a $25 student membership fee with their application.
