5 Paschal Seniors Named National Merit Scholarship Semifinalists

Five seniors at Fort Worth ISD’s R.L. Paschal High School are semifinalists for the National Merit Scholarship.

The students are among approximately 16,000 semifinalist names announced Wednesday, September 11, 2019 as part of the 65th annual National Merit Scholarship Program.

The semifinalists from Paschal are:

Jack Boller

Lucy Chang

Benjamin Larson

Mark Moses

Ian Travis

The students are vying for the opportunity to earn one of 7,600 National Merit Scholarship awards being offered next spring. Total, the National Merit Scholarship Corp. will award over $31 million in scholarships to recipients. Three types of scholarships are being announced next spring: National Merit $2,500 Scholarships, corporate and college sponsored awards.

Semifinalists represent the highest scoring-entrants in each state on the Preliminary SAT/ National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) and represent fewer than 1 % of high school seniors, according to the National Merit Scholarship Corp. To advance in the competition, semifinalists must complete a detailed scholarship application including their academic record, school and community activity participation, leadership abilities, work history, awards, a letter of recommendation and an essay.
