Finalists are selected by a committee made up of “Texas-based journalists and college football dignitaries and, in subsequent years, each of the all-time winners,” according to the website for the award. A winner will be announced an awards banquet, January 9, 2019, in Tyler.
Named for Pro Football Hall of Fame running back Earl Campbell, the award recognizes Division I college offensive players with ties to Texas.
Despite finishing behind Alabama’s Jerry Jeudy in the three-member finalist race for the Biletnikoff Award, Mr. Wallace has picked up several football accolades in recent days.
On Monday, December 10, he was named a second team All-American honoree by the Associated Press. Since December 5, Mr. Wallace has been named to the Sports Illustrated All-America second team; the 2018 AP All-Big 12 Conference first team and the Walter Camp All-America second team.
Mr. Wallace led the nation in regular season play with “59 receptions of 10 yards or longer, tied for the [Football Bowl Subdivision] lead with 25 receptions of 20 yards or longer and tied for the national lead with 18 catches of 25 yards or longer. His 17.82 yards per reception also led the FBS among players with a minimum of 60 catches, while his 1,408 total receiving yards ranked third nationally,” according to OSU officials in a recent media release.
A Fort Worth native, Mr. Wallace attended FWISD’s Westcreek and Bruce Shulkey elementary schools, Wedgwood Middle School before graduating from South Hills High. He and his twin Tracin, who also attends OSU and is his teammate on the Cowboys football squad, are members of Fort Worth ISD’s My Brother’s Keeper inaugural class.
Mr. Wallace is set to close out his 2018 season at OSU playing in the Liberty Bowl against Missouri, December 31 in Memphis, Tennessee.
