FWISD To Observe Hispanic Heritage Month
Fort Worth ISD will join the nation in celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month, September 15 to October 15.
National Hispanic Heritage Month celebrates the history, culture and contributions of Hispanic Americans, who are descendants of individuals from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean, Central and South America. The observance originated in 1968 as a weeklong celebration and expanded into a 30-day commemoration in 1988, according to hispanicheritagemonth.gov.
The District will place displays in the lobbies at its Central Administration Building on University Drive and the Board of Education Complex on Shotts Street in commemoration of National Hispanic Heritage Month. Plans are still be finalized for other celebratory events.
In recent years, FWISD and its schools have hosted community events, art exhibits, dance and music performances and teachers have created music videos to celebrate the significant Hispanic contributions and influences on this nation.
