Revelers made a more than 1.5-mile trek from Meadowbrook Elementary School to Eastern Hills High School in the high school’s annual homecoming parade, Saturday, Oct. 22. Parade supporters included students, alumni, families, community members, local businesses, the Fort Worth police and fire departments, Code Blue, the Eastern Hills High School Alumni Support Association and the W. Meadowbrook and Eastern Hills neighborhood associations.
The Eastside Alliance organized the parade.
“It was probably the best homecoming parade I've been a part of,” said Charles Hodges, director of the Fort Worth ISD Eastside Alliance Community partnership. “Everyone was smiling ear to ear and having a great time.”
Homecoming festivities continue at 7 p.m. Thursday when the Highlanders face the Polytechnic High School Parrots at Scarborough-Handley Field, 6201 Craig St. in Fort Worth. Joey Floyd, an accomplished professional musician, will be posthumously inducted into the Eastern Hills High School Distinguished Alumnus Hall of Fame at halftime. Mr. Floyd 47, died in 2016 after a lengthy cancer battle. His wife, Lauren Wright Floyd, is expected to accept the award on his behalf.
