Where: Arlington Heights High School, 4501 W. Freeway, Fort Worth, 76107

Fort Worth, Texas - Arlington Heights High School will host its annual Literacy Rally that promises fun for the students and families of surrounding schools and the entire Fort Worth community. This free rally will be held November 4 at the school and will include student performances, free books, and other activities for attendees of all ages.

This year’s theme is “Reading is Our Superpower.” The rally is designed to promote literacy for all students by providing free books for babies through young adult readers. Arlington Heights Principal Sarah Weeks said guests will include Superintendent Dr. Kent P. Scribner.

“The Heights pyramid is promoting literacy not only within our community, but to all of Fort Worth,” Ms. Weeks said. “Our goal is to provide free books for families to read at home while providing a fun family morning at our event.”

The rally supports 100 X 25FWTX, the District’s early literacy goal to ensure 100 percent of third-grade students are reading at or above grade level by the year 2025.  Dr. Scribner is partnering with Mayor Price and BNSF Executive Chairman Matt Rose to lead the community-wide Read Fort Worth initiative. This collective impact strategy engages parents, grandparents, and caregivers as well as volunteers from the city’s business sector, higher education, non-profit organizations, and the faith-based community.

Early literacy can determine success in all subjects for years to come, including math and science. It’s a key component of the District’s mission to prepare all children for success in college, career, and community leadership.  Everyone has a part to play in children’s literacy and Arlington Heights High School welcomes all ages and families to attend the rally.
