Paschal HS Band, Color Guard Celebrates One of Their Own

In its final halftime performance this season at home, the award-winning Paschal High School band and color guard recognized one of their own.

Senior Kendall Walker, a member of the color guard for the last four years, was recognized as Color Guard Member of the Week. Kendall, who has auditioned for a spot in the halftime show every year, performs with the added challenge of Down syndrome.

Kendall was featured in two of the band’s four-movement performance of “The Raven,” a show based on Edgar Allen Poe’s poem.

“As a parent of a special-needs kid, this is inclusion the way every special-needs parent wishes it would go,” said Tracy Walker, Kendall’s father. “When you look out on the field, you can’t pick her out from the other kids.”
