Remembering Makala Denefield

Giving honor where honor is due, the YMLA Family is saddened to announce the passing of one of our greatest and dearest parent supporters, Mrs. Makala Denefield. Mrs. Denefield was a dedicated member of the YMLA PTSA from the time her son, Mason, became a scholar here, and she continued to support the school even after his graduation. Her no-nonsense approach to handling school affairs helped the YMLA PTSA become very active and successful for the first several years of our school. We will always remember Makala Denefield and her fight with Breast Cancer, as she bravely shared her story with our scholars during our annual Rene L. Ruffin Breast Cancer Awareness Program. Thank you, Mrs. Denefield, for your years of dedication and service to the scholars and staff of YMLA.
