Annual Family Literacy Celebration This Saturday
Fort Worth ISD’s Student Placement Center is hosting its annual Family Literacy Celebration from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, May 18 at the Billingsley Field House.
Free books and information for summer programs, reading and staying academically and physically active throughout the summer months is being offered for the entire family of English Learning students at the event. Billingsley Field House is located at 1400 Foch St.
Culinary students from Trimble Tech are preparing breakfast for attendees, and photography students are expected to take photographs at the event. The mariachi programs from Polytechnic and Paschal high schools are expected to perform at the celebration.
The event is designed to offer families tools for reading and staying active during the summer break as well as adult education information.
“The books presented will have a wide range of themes to ensure students choose titles that inspire them,” said Diana De La Paz. “Reading proficiency is one of the most important tenants in achieving success, both at the professional and personal level. Enabling [English Learners] to read is part of that preparation for success in future academic endeavors and leadership in the community.”
