Eastern Hills Wins Area Round Championship, Advances to Regional Quarterfinal

Fort Worth ISD congratulates Eastern Hills on advancing to the regional quarterfinal round of the UIL boy’s basketball playoffs! The district also congratulates the Dunbar Flying Wildcats on a great season! Dunbar finished second in district play and won a bi-district championship over Venus before its season ended in the area round!

Eastern Hills advanced to the regional quarterfinal by way of a 63-59 win over Van Alstyne in the area round. Alex Barther II led the way for the Highlanders with 33 of Eastern Hills’ 63 points. Messiah Miller added 10 points and Kamden McGilveary chipped in eight points, including a clutch bucket in the fourth quarter. Eastern Hills trailed Van Alstyne 33-29 at halftime before Barther II took over in the third quarter. The Highlanders outscored Van Alstyne 24-14 in the third quarter thanks to Barther II scoring 14 of his game-high 33 points in the frame.

With two playoff wins down, the road ahead gets tougher for Eastern Hills. The No. 2 ranked Highlanders face a team that was ranked in the  Texas Association of Basketball Coaches state rankings for the majority of the season in the regional quarterfinal. Anna upset No. 13 Kennedale 47-45 to advance to round three. Eastern Hills and Anna tip-off the regional quarterfinal round at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 27 from Hebron High School. Should Eastern Hills advance to the regional tournament, No. 4 Dallas Carter potentially waits in the regional semifinal, while No. 1 Oak Cliff Faith Family could be waiting in the Region II Final with a trip to the Final Four in San Antonio on the line.

No matter how the next three rounds of playoff basketball play out this week, Fort Worth ISD is proud of Eastern Hills for winning an area round championship and advancing to the regional quarterfinal! Be sure to get out and support the No. 2 Highlanders on Tuesday night at Hebron High School!
