WWII Veteran and POW Fiske Hanley Discusses His Experiences with Paschal High School Students
Students enrolled in U.S. history classes at Paschal High School learned firsthand about how Fiske Hanley joined the military in WWII, was held prisoner in Japan, and lived to write and speak about his experiences. Mr. Hanley made his presentation to students on Thursday, Feb. 1 at 9:30 a.m. in the large auditorium.
Mr. Hanley is a 1938 graduate of Paschal High School and although he is in his late 90s, he still speaks to groups about his time during WWII. He was a B-29 flight engineer when he was captured and held as a prisoner of war in Japan. He wrote about his experiences in the book, “Accused American War Criminal.”
Mr. Hanley's visit to Paschal coincided with the study of WWII in U.S. History classes. It also allowed the students to hear a first-hand account of the events which took place more than 70 years ago.
