FWISD Southwest High School Wind Symphony Named a 5A National Winner

The Fort Worth ISD celebrates the 2022 Southwest High School Wind Symphony Varsity Band on being named a 5A National Winner in the Mark of Excellence project presented by The Foundation for Music Education.

The Mark of Excellence project seeks to recognize and award outstanding achievement in performance by high school and middle school bands, choirs, and orchestras.

Southwest High School Wind Symphony's recording submission was one of 376 entries from 39 states throughout the United States representing the best programs. A blind panel of nationally renowned directors anonymously judged the entries. The top 25% of entrants are recognized as National Winners in regional-national publications and conventions. Most importantly, each participating band will receive valuable feedback from the adjudicator.

"We are thrilled with the result!! We were all so impressed with how the students were so focused and showed tremendous effort in the daily preparation of the program," said Southwest High School Director of Bands Jeff DeMaagd. "This level of achievement isn't possible without the commitment to excellence from every member of the band, staff, and the entire faculty here at SHS."
