BOARD OF EDUCATION CERTIFIES TAX RATIFICATION FUNDS AND OK’S COMPUTER PURCHASES
(Tuesday, November 17, 2020) -- On Monday, November 16, 2020, the Fort Worth ISD Board of Education, at a Special Meeting, certified the vote tally for the November 3 Voter Approval Tax Ratification Election (VATRE).
District voters approved the VATRE that will generate $44 million locally with an additional $22 million coming from the state for an annual additional revenue of $66 million.
Those funds will be used by the District for:
- Compensation for teachers allowing the District to be more competitive in attracting and retaining the best teachers;
- Safety, health, and security by providing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and additional measures to clean and sanitize campuses;
- And, connectivity for devices such as Chromebook computers to include hot spots and additional methods to provide broadband internet access for students.
Immediately following the vote certification, the Board of Education authorized Superintendent Kent P. Scribner to purchase up to 24,200 student laptops and services to provide a one-to-one student to device ratio. The purchase will not exceed $12,000,000.
“We are grateful to voters for their support of Fort Worth ISD students,” said Superintendent Kent P. Scribner. “And we are taking immediate action to use VATRE funding to give our students the resources they need to be successful.”
