Eastern Hills and Dunbar Laces, Layups & Literacy Basketball Doubleheader Set for Monday, Jan. 29
Fort Worth, Texas - The second-annual Eastern Hills and Dunbar boys’ and girls’ varsity basketball doubleheader is scheduled for Monday, Jan. 29, at the Wilkerson-Greines Activity Center. The girls’ tip-off at 6 p.m. and the boys follow at 7:30 p.m.
Previously called 100 Men in Suits and 100 Women in Heels, the new Laces, Layups & Literacy event is intended to visibly demonstrate wide-spread community support for all 20 schools that make up the EHHS and DHS attendance zones.
Admission is free for anyone showing up in professional attire such as a suit, jacket, tie, business suit, heels and dress shoes or for anyone donating a new children's book at the door to support the FWISD's 100 X 25 FWTX literacy initiative.
100 X 25 FWTX is a goal that 100 percent of third-graders will be reading on grade level or above by the year 2025. Superintendent Kent P. Scribner is partnering with Mayor Betsy Price and BNSF Executive Chairman Matt Rose to lead the community-wide Read Fort Worth initiative. This collective impact strategy engages parents, grandparents, and caregivers as well as volunteers from the city’s business sector, higher education, non-profit organizations, and the faith-based community.
The first annual 100 Men in Suits event held in 2016 at Billingsley Field House brought out more than 100 community members in business attire to visibly demonstrate their support for all students at Eastern Hills and Dunbar high schools.
