Nearly 200 Fidelity Volunteers Make Over Dunbar HS
Nearly 200 Fidelity Cares volunteers recently participated in Transformation Day at Dunbar High School, a makeover of school facilities.
Volunteers assisted with renovation projects on the campus including the updating of school murals in the cafeteria, library, STEM hallway, athletic facilities and at the school’s entrance. Affirmations of encouragement were also painted in student bathrooms and on walls in the Dunbar halls.
Among the attendees at the March 24 Transformation Day was U.S. Rep. Marc Veasey (D-Fort Worth), a graduate of the Fort Worth ISD.
Students who arrived at school Monday, March 26 were elated at the sight of the transformation. They took selfies and group photos around the freshly painted walls. The most popular transformation all among students was the STEM hallway, which now features periodic table ceiling tiles. Regina Williams, grant coordinator at Dunbar High, calls the transformation amazing.
“Changing an atmosphere can change an attitude,” she said. “It is that change in attitude that we hope will continue to translate into continued academic improvement, social and emotional growth and pride in school.”
Fidelity Investments, a leading diversified financial services company, has partnered with Dunbar High School for years, donating supplies, and employee volunteers to assist the school through the company's Fidelity Cares program.
Although this is the third time its employees have participated in Transformation Day on the Dunbar campus, they’ve held similar annual projects across the District for eight years. During previous events, Fidelity volunteers worked on school murals, refurbished the campus trophy case, did work in the faculty lounge and created a Senior chat room.
“The investment of Fidelity to Dunbar goes beyond Transformation Day. Fidelity embodies the word stakeholder and partner,” Mrs. Williams said. “They are partners in educating our students beyond painting a wall. They have demonstrated their investment in creating an atmosphere that is conducive to learning through climate change, student mentoring and providing much-needed resources and opportunities.”
