Fort Worth ISD Teachers Trained to Deliver Dual Enrollment Courses Through “On-Ramps”
University of Texas at Austin Program Will Impact Hundreds of Students
Approximately 1,300 Fort Worth ISD high school students will be able to take dual enrollment courses through the University of Texas at Austin this fall thanks to a new teacher training program called OnRamps.
For almost two weeks in mid-July, FWISD high school educators will attend intensive “New Instructor Professional Learning” in history, physics, rhetoric, pre-calculus, statistics, and computer science. The group, including 74 teachers, nine campus leaders and two District administrators, will travel to Austin and live on the UT campus during the training.
“Our OnRamps teachers will be exposed to professional development and support that will help them improve teaching quality which ultimately benefits our students,” said David Saenz, executive director of FWISD College and Career Readiness. “We want to make sure our students experience innovative dual-enrollment while in high school to learn first-hand all it takes to succeed in college before they actually get there.”
Students meet rigorous university-level college readiness standards and have the opportunity to earn UT Austin credit from a UT faculty member and high school credit from their local teacher.
