Festivities get underway at 9 a.m. Saturday, October 12 at Billingsley Field House, located at 1400 Foch St. The free event, sponsored by Fort Worth ISD’s Student Placement Center, promotes healthy lifestyles in the community. No registration is required.
Ballet Folclorico de Fort Worth, Zumba, a hula-hoop contest and prizes are part of the events slated through 1 p.m. Breakfast is being prepared for attendees by Trimble Tech High School culinary students.
Other program participants include JPS, Cook Children’s, University of North Texas Health Science Center, several FWISD departments, Fort Worth police and fire departments, Tarrant County College, the U.S. Census Bureau, Clayton Youth Enrichment and many more.
Breakfast is being sponsored by Pediatric Urgent Care (La Gran Plaza), Bear Creek Family Dentistry, Trimble Tech Culinary Arts, Blue Zones Project and FWISD Nutrition Services.
“We are holding this event as an additional service offered to families in the FWISD to promote a healthy lifestyle, which has an impact on the academic and socio-emotional development of students,” said Felipe Ramirez, Student Placement Center home liaison specialist and counselor. “The purpose is to ensure students receive health and safety services needed.
“Health and safety are central to the physical and mental development of a young mind, especially in cognitive areas that contribute to learning and reading abilities.”
The Student Placement Center, which is part of FWISD’s Multilingual Programs Department, assists in registering students new to the District who customarily hear or speak a language other than English at home.
