North Side, South Hills High Schools Square Off in North Texas Area Culinary Contest
Culinary High School Students Compete to Create Menu Items for Well-Known Fort Worth-Dallas Restaurants
Culinary arts students from Fort Worth ISD’s North Side and South Hills High Schools competed against each other for the chance to have their culinary creations added to the “Kids Fit Meals” menu at la Madeleine French Bakery and Café.
Both groups participated in the Kids Fit Menu Invitational Live Demo Event, a partnership of Medical City Children’s Hospital, the Greater Dallas Restaurant Association and Texas ProStart Saturday, October 6 at 3015 at Trinity Groves, a culinary events center, in Dallas.
Contest results are expected to be announced in two weeks.
Culinary arts teams from 14 Dallas-Fort Worth-area schools conducted live demonstrations of Kids Fit Menu dishes they’ve created for representatives from four restaurants.
Winning dishes will be featured in more than 130 restaurant locations and appear on children’s menus at la Madeleine, Fish City Grill, Cotton Patch and Cristina’s Fine Mexican, according to Medical City Children’s Hospital. Each team will receive $500 from Gordon Food Service, presenting sponsor.
Students will be eligible for other prizes, as well.
The team from South Hills High School is led by CTE instructor Chef Jeff Glick, with Linda Rogers assisting.
North Side High School is led by Chef Paul Philpot.
