FWISD Alumni Play in NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament
Two Fort Worth ISD alumni played in the very first game of the 2019 NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Tournament, Tuesday, March 19.
Dennis Jones and Iwin Ellis, graduates of Dunbar and Polytechnic high schools, respectively, led the Prairie View A&M University Panthers to the 2019 Southwestern Athletic Conference Championship and an automatic 2019 NCAA tournament bid. The team faced Fairleigh Dickinson in Dayton, Ohio for one of the First Four play-in game, March 19. The Fairleigh Dickinson Knights defeated the Panthers 82-76 to advance to Round 1 in the West Region where it faces No. 1 seed-Gonzaga on Thursday, March 21 in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Mr. Ellis is a 2013 Polytechnic graduate. Mr. Jones, a 2014 Dunbar grad, was selected the SWAC Defensive Player of the Year for the regular season. Both men are seniors at Prairie View majoring in criminal justice.
