FWISD Student Recipes Debut on la Madeleine Menu
Two dishes created by students from Fort Worth ISD’s North Side and South Hills High Schools are now on the kids’ menu at la Madeleine French Bakery and Café.
The Cinnamon Apple Crepe from North Side High’s Jacob Hernandez, Jisel Rodriguez and Abigail Morin and Ooh la la Chicken and Rice from South Hills’ Mark Torres debuts on the la Madeleine Kids Fit menu nationwide, Wednesday, April 24, 2019.
The student chefs are being recognized for their recipes at a May 1 event slated at a Fort Worth la Madeleine.
Culinary arts students at the two schools participated in the Kids Fit Menu Invitational Live Demo Event, a partnership of Medical City Children’s Hospital, the Greater Dallas Restaurant Association and Texas ProStart last fall in Dallas, where the winning dishes were selected.
“[The] teams blew us away,” said Jacqueline O’Reilly, vice president of marketing for la Madeleine French Bakery & Café after the demo event. “So excited to work with them to bring Ooh la la Chicken and the Cinnamon Apple Crepe to life.”
The team from South Hills High School is led by CTE instructor Chef Jeff Glick, with Linda Rogers assisting.
North Side High School is led by Chef Paul Philpot.
Teams from 14 Dallas-Fort Worth-area schools conducted live demonstrations of their signature Kids Fit Menu dishes for representatives from four restaurants -- la Madeleine, Fish City Grill, Cotton Patch and Cristina’s Fine Mexican – October 6, 2018, vying for the chance at their dish appearing on children’s menus at the eateries.
