School Board Trustees to be Sworn In May 14

The Fort Worth ISD will swear in its newly-elected Board of Education trustees, Tuesday May 14.

On Saturday, May 4, voters elected three freshman trustees to the board and reelected current Board President Tobi Jackson.  Quinton “Q” Phillips, Anne Darr and Carin “CJ” Evans will represent Districts 3, 5 and 6, respectively, on the board. Each trustee will serve a four-year term.

Ms. Jackson was re-elected to the board after garnering 63.48% of votes, according to unofficial returns from Tarrant County Elections Office. Her opponent, Chad E. McCarty earned 36.52% of votes.   Ms. Jackson, who will enter her third term as a trustee, represents east Fort Worth including Eastern Hills and Polytechnic high schools.

With more than two-thirds of the vote, Mr. Phillips will become the next District 3 trustee. Cleveland Harris, his opponent, received 30.43% of votes.  Mr. Phillips succeeds Christene Moss, who did not seek reelection and will step down from the board later this month. He will represent FWISD schools in southeast Fort Worth including Dunbar High School, Young Men’s Leadership Academy.

Ms. Evans will soon become Judy Needham’s successor for the District 5 seat after garnering 57.14% of votes.  She faced Carla Morton, who received 42.86% of votes, in the District 5 race.  District 5 encompasses west Fort Worth, and includes Arlington Heights High School, Stripling Middle School and Tanglewod Elementary.

Ms. Darr edged out opponents Lisa Saucedo and Sandra Shelton with 61.63% of votes to be elected to the District 6 seat. She succeeds Ann Sutherland, who along with Mrs. Moss, and Ms. Needham will step down from the board later this month after not seeking another term. District 6 includes schools in south Fort Worth including South Hills and Southwest high schools and the Alice Carlson Applied Learning Center.

Results from the May 4 election will be canvassed May 14, just prior to the newly-elected Board trustees being sworn in.
