Employee Benefits Open Enrollment Underway
Enrollment in 2019-2020 insurance benefits for Fort Worth ISD employees is underway. Staff may apply through Thursday, August 22, 2019.
According to the Benefits Department, an average 2% increase in medical premiums is the only change for the upcoming coverage year, which takes effect Sunday, September 1, 2019. Employees will keep the same insurance cards unless there’s a change in coverage information.
Because of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA), ALL employees must either enroll, opt to keep the same coverage or decline health coverage.
About 55 percent of FWISD employees signed up for medical coverage during the 2018-2019 open enrollment period, according to Benefits officials. Of those who enrolled, 4,500 opted to accept the TRS ActiveCare 1-HD (high-deductible) plan, which is most popular among employees.
Workers currently paying $80 in health premiums monthly under the TRS ActiveCare 1-HD employee-only plan will pay $91, beginning September 1, 2019.

The District will host open enrollment sessions August 6-22, 2019 where employees can learn more about the benefits available to them, ask questions and complete the online enrollment for 2019-2020 benefits. District staff enrolling for benefits must use their active directory username and password to complete the process.

Postcards detailing the 2019-2020 insurance benefit open enrollment dates and information sessions were mailed July 8, 2019 to the home address employees have on file with the District.
