Watch the Video: C.C. Moss, Washington Heights ES Students Kick Off 2019 Schools On Skates Program

Approximately 1,600 Fort Worth ISD third and fourth graders will get the chance to glide across the city’s only outdoor ice-skating rink, Panther Island Ice, this holiday season.

Thanks to a partnership between Panther Island Ice, the R4 Foundation and Blue Zones Project, the 2019 FWISD Schools on Skates season got underway Thursday, November 21. More than 100 students from C.C. Moss and Washington Heights elementary schools were the first children from 20 FWISD schools to skate at the rink through December 18.

Other participating schools include:

  • Cesar Chavez
  • Atwood McDonald
  • Springdale
  • Tanglewood
  • Carroll Peak
  • Western Hills
  • East Handley
  • Woodway
  • Charles E. Nash
  • Manuel Jara
  • De Zavala
  • Lily B. Clayton
  • Rosemont
  • Lowery Road
  • M.H. Moore
  • David K. Sellars
  • J.T. Stevens
  • A.M. Pate

The R4 Foundation is covering the cost of student transportation for the FWISD Schools on Skates program and Blue Zones Project - Fort Worth is providing healthy snacks for students while at the ice rink.

The majority of schools participating in the Schools on Skates program are considered Title I campuses. This means they serve economically disadvantaged neighborhoods.

“We are so appreciative of the Tarrant Regional Water District, and affiliated partners, for their annual support of the Schools on Skates program,” said Tobi Jackson, FWISD Board Trustee. “As of this year, 100% of the elementary schools in FWISD have had the opportunity to participate in the Schools on Skates program and experience one of Fort Worth’s great holiday traditions.

"This program achieves equity through access to ice skating for our youth."

Panther Island Ice is located at Coyote Drive-In and has the Downtown skyline as a picturesque backdrop. The ice rink is separate from the drive-in and a ticket to Coyote is not necessary to skate. However, Panther Island Ice patrons can still utilize the ample parking along with other Coyote amenities such as restrooms and the popular Coyote Canteen.
