Business Leaders Observe Future Workforce at North Side HS
Nearly a dozen representatives from the Fort Worth business community toured Fort Worth ISD’s North Side High School, Tuesday, January 14.
The tour is one of many slated this school year in which business leaders will visit Fort Worth high schools for a glimpse at how the future workforce is being educated and trained.
At North Side, representatives from Baird, Hampton & Brown, Inc., Catholic Charities of Fort Worth, Chadra Mezza and Grill, Solomon Bruce Consulting LLC, and Union Pacific toured culinary, engineering and automotive repair classrooms for a look at students preparing meals, creating things with 3-D technology and repairing vehicles. Tours are organized by the Fort Worth Chamber of Commerce and Fort Worth ISD’s Strategic Communications Division and Career and Technical Education Department.
The tour concluded with North Side culinary students preparing lunch for their guests and FWISD Career and Technical Education coordinators answering questions about its programs and other opportunities for businesses to connect with District campuses and students.

David Saenz, senior officer of FWISD’s Office of Innovation, said that exchanges like this are significant because it informs the District of how to prepare students appropriately for the workforce. Additionally, students meet professionals in a career field they aspire to one day join and hear their stories of how they got there, he said.
“Exchanges like today are important to make the connection between what should be going on in our schools and our business community,” Mr. Saenz said. “The more we can talk to [business leaders], the better we can inform our education system.”
The Fort Worth Chamber of Commerce and FWISD Career and Technical Education Department intend to create more opportunities for business leaders to engage with the District’s Programs of Choice and Career and Technical Education Programs. Campus tours at Trimble Tech and Dunbar high schools are slated for next month.
