2 FWISD Psychology Specialists Named Best in the State

The Fort Worth ISD is home to two 2021 Outstanding School Psychologist honorees.

Dr. Kristin Nethers and Mike Webber are being recognized this week as Outstanding School Psychologist Award winners at the doctoral and specialist levels, respectively by the Texas Association of School Psychologists. The two are being recognized at the association’s 29th Annual Fall Professional Convention in Georgetown.  The awards recognize individuals who’ve demonstrated excellence in the National of Association of School Psychologists’ nine Domains of Practice at the doctoral and specialist levels.

Dr. Nethers and Mr. Webber serve as Licensed Specialists in School Psychology (LSSPs) in FWISD’s Psychological Services Department.

“Both Dr. Nethers and Mr. Webber have devoted much of their lives to the practice of school psychology and deserved to be recognized for their dedication to the field, students, families, staff and stakeholders,” said Dr. Justin Gaddis, FWISD’s Health Services and District Well-Being executive director, who previously served as the District’s Psychological Services director.

An innovator, Dr. Nethers in her time with the District has established and built supports for students with autism spectrum disorders and helped multiple families through the Child Find evaluation process, Dr. Gaddis said. Her love for psychology extends beyond her District work, and she’s passionate about educating college and high school students about the field, he said.

“Dr. Nethers has been a pillar within the Psychological Services Department; always willing to help colleagues and check in during difficult times,” Dr. Gaddis said.

Referred to as the “behavior expert,” Mr. Webber never hesitates to consult with colleagues or offer student support on campuses, Dr. Gaddis said.

“His level-headed approach to problem solving is often requested and revered by those he works closest with,” Dr. Gaddis said. “Mr. Webber has not only shaped the practice of school psychology on his campuses, but within the District and state.”

This makes the second consecutive year the Texas Association of School Psychologists has recognized FWISD’s Psychological Services Department and its LSSPs. In 2020, the department was recognized with the association’s Outstanding Delivery of School Psychological Services Award, and Dr. Louanne Parker, a former LSSP, earned the Outstanding School Psychologist Award at the doctoral level.
