FWISD Encourages Students to Celebrate Democracy by Registering to Vote

See FWISD Trustee Anael Luebano’s Motivating Message

The Fort Worth ISD is inviting all stakeholders, especially students, to join the country in celebrating democracy by registering to vote as part of National Voter Registration Day. To get started, FWISD District 8 Trustee Anael Luebanos is motivating students via this video message.

Throughout the District, high schools will host voter registration events prior to National Voter Registration Day, Sept. 20, 2022. Some FWISD high schools plan to set up voter registration tables at sporting events, and others will host voter registration campus drive-throughs.

“It is important that all eligible FWISD students participate in one of our country’s greatest privileges – the right to vote,” said Trustee Luebanos. “This nonpartisan registration drive helps ensure their voices are heard at the next election.”

The Texas Education Code mandates that state high school principals serve as deputy registrars in the county where their school is located. Twice a year, a high school deputy registrar may distribute a voter registration application to each student who is or will be 18 years old or older on Election Day.

The deadline for eligible Texans to register for the Nov. 8 general, special and midterm elections is Oct. 11, 2022. Additional voter registration information is available at http://votetexas.gov.
