Eight FWISD Men's Teams Qualify for Playoffs; Dunbar Women Advance to Regional Quarterfinal

Fort Worth ISD congratulates the Dunbar women’s basketball team on advancing to the regional quarterfinal round of the UIL playoffs! The Lady Wildcats eliminated Ferris 66-40 and Van Alstyne 44-40 in overtime to reach the third round of the playoffs! Catch Dunbar’s regional quarterfinal matchup with Frisco Panther Creek on Tuesday, Feb. 20 at Grapevine High School. Tip-off is set for 6:30 p.m. and the winner advances to face the winner of Sunnyvale and Lincoln at the Region II Tournament in Commerce, Texas. Good luck on Tuesday night, Lady Wildcats! 

Fort Worth ISD’s men’s basketball teams experienced a fantastic regular season, and eight of its teams advanced to the UIL playoffs! The district will be represented in the 6A, 5A and 4A playoffs, including TABC’s No. 2 ranked 4A team, the Eastern Hills Highlanders. Arlington Heights won District 6-5A and Eastern Hills won District 9-4A. Paschal, Southwest, O.D. Wyatt, Dunbar, Western Hills and Benbrook also made the playoffs. 6A

Fort Worth ISD’s lone 6A team qualified for the playoffs as the third seed out of District 3-6A. The Paschal Panthers will move down to 5A next season, but get to experience 6A competition one last time on this playoff run. That run starts in the bi-district round against the Eaton Eagles. Paschal takes on Eaton Tuesday, Feb. 20 at Flower Mound Marcus High School. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. and the winner will face the winner of El Paso Americas and Midland Legacy in the area round. 

5A

Arlington Heights is the top seed out of District 6-5A after winning the district title with a perfect record in district play. The Yellow Jackets face  Aledo in the bi-district round on Tuesday, Feb. 20 at Cleburne High School. Tip-off is set for 8 p.m. and the winner faces the winner of Colleyville Heritage and Midlothian in the area round.

Southwest took third place in District 6-5A and faces Saginaw on Tuesday, Feb. 20 at North Crowley High School. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. and the winner faces the winner of Mansfield Summit and Birdville in the area round.

O.D. Wyatt claimed the final playoff spot in District 6-5A and takes on Brewer on Tuesday, Feb. 20 at Burleson Centennial High School. Tip-off is set for 8 p.m. and the winner advances to face the winner of Mansfield Timberview and Argyle in the area round.

4A

The aforementioned No. 2 ranked team in 4A, the Eastern Hills Highlanders, reached that ranking thanks to an undefeated run through district play and knocking off several 6A teams, including a highly ranked North Crowley squad, in non-district play. Eastern Hills opens the playoffs against Waxahachie Life on Tuesday, Feb. 20 at Mansfield Legacy High School. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. and the winner faces the winner of Van Alstyne and North Hills Prep in the area round.

Dunbar finished as the runner-up in District 9-4A. The Flying Wildcats open another playoff run against Venus on Tuesday, Feb. 20 at Burleson High School. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. and the winner advances to face the winner of Oak Cliff Faith Family and Aubrey. 

Western Hills beat Benbrook 49-41 in a tiebreaker game for third place in District 9-4A. The Cougars take that momentum into a bi-district matchup with Alvarado on Tuesday, Feb. 20 at Burleson Centennial High School. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. and the winner advances to face the winner of Frisco Panther Creek and Summit International Prep in the area round. 

Benbrook took fourth place in District 9-4A as a result of the tiebreaker game with Western Hills. The Bobcats face Kennedale on Tuesday, Feb. 20 at Burleson High School. Tip-off is set for 8 p.m. and the winner advances to face the winner of Anna and Hampton Prep in the area round.

Fort Worth ISD is proud of all eight of its men’s basketball teams that qualified for the playoffs! The district can’t wait to watch each team compete in the bi-district round! All eight games are slated for Tuesday night, though there are two double-headers featuring Dunbar and Benbrook at Burleson High School, as well as O.D. Wyatt and Western Hills at Burleson Centennial High School. FWISD wishes all its teams the best of luck in the bi-district round!
