Summary: Fort Worth ISD’s robotics team at the Young Women’s Leadership Academy and the Southwest High School’s Advanced Media Program are showcasing their program’s successes at the 2018 STEAM Carnival’s CTE Day.
The three-day event, being hosted October 22-24 at the Education Service Center Region 11 facility, is a modern reinvention of the traveling midway, designed to inspire the next generation of inventors with Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math (STEAM).
New to STEAM Carnival this year is CTE Day, slated for Monday, October 22. The student showcase puts a spotlight on CTE (Career and Technical Education) programs and academies across the Region 11 service area, according to STEAM Carnival organizers.
This is not the first time YWLA and Southwest high School have showcased their broadcast and robotics programs.
Earlier this fall, the two schools participated in the Industry Discovery Expo, an event hosted by Workforce Solutions of Tarrant County that celebrated Careers in Texas Industry Week.
STEAM Carnival is a modern reinvention of the traveling midway, designed to inspire the next generation of inventors with Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math (STEAM).
Students will participate in hands-on and collaborative learning at the STEAM Carnival. The carnival is divided into zones where students can experience drones, arts, robots, coding and other activities that involve Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math. The STEAM Carnival uses career choices such as scientist, engineer, programmer and artist as the focal point to drive student curiosity.
The STEAM Carnival began in DFW in 2016 as a way to showcase student creations, engage students from both rural and urban districts in the STEAM environment, and provide a field-trip experience that immerses students in hands-on learning throughout the event.
The original STEAM Carnival was introduced by Two Bit Circus out of Los Angeles, California. Employees of ESC Region 11 began a partnership with them to bring the experience to students in the DFW area and it is now one of the largest STEAM events in the state.
