Wedgwood MS Wins Southwest Show Choir Invitational
Fort Worth ISD’s Harmonium show choir from Wedgwood Middle School took home the top prize at the Southwest Show Choir Invitational, hosted Tuesday, January 29, at Southwest High School.
Ten Dallas-Fort Worth area ensembles competed in the competition, the inaugural show choir contest hosted by a FWISD school. Show choirs from Stripling Middle School (The Stingers) and South Hills High School (The Constellations) took home second- and third-place honors, respectively.
“The District continues to blaze new Fine Arts trails with the inaugural Show Choir Invitational at Southwest High School,” said Dinah Menger, director of choral and elementary music. “The auditorium was packed with engaged students sharing their love for this art form and supporting their competitors with enthusiasm. Showcasing talent and teamwork through popular music and intense choreography makes this art form truly exciting to watch! Fort Worth ISD "brings the sing!"
Six FWISD ensembles competed in the Southwest Show Choir including Vocal Warriors (Wedgwood 6th Grade Center), the J. P. Elder Show Choir, Techtonics (Trimble Tech High School) and Southwest Effect (Southwest High School).
Competing ensembles performed for three professional judges for the chance at taking home overall top honors and awards for best band, male and female performer, soloist and dancer.
The following are individual category winners from FWISD:
Best Female Soloist- Teresa Jones, South Hills High School
Best Male Soloist-David Rhines, Wedgwood 6th Grade Center
Outstanding Female Performer-Ashleigh Brooks, Wedgwood Middle School
Outstanding Male Performer- Denym Greer, Trimble Tech High School
A clinic on sharpening show choir skills was also offered to the ensembles during the event. The show included a special performance from Mansfield’s Legacy High School.
