Dolores Huerta ES Opens Hispanic Heritage School Museum September 26
Fort Worth ISD’s Dolores Huerta Elementary School PTA will host opening night of the campus Hispanic Heritage School Museum, Thursday, September 26.
From 4 to 5:30 p.m., the public is invited to view 30 classroom bulletin board project/exhibits displaying the life and work of Latino authors and illustrators in children’s literature, Hispanic American role models, leaders and heroes in science, history and the arts. Displays celebrating family traditions and Latino immigrant families in the United States are also part of the exhibit.
All attendees will receive a museum guide, and students will serve as museum docents talking about their classroom projects. The museum will remain open during school hours September 30 to October 18.
Dolores Huerta Elementary is located at 3309 Long Ave. in Fort Worth.
“Our Hispanic Heritage School Museum project was created in 1990 to give FWISD elementary grade classroom teachers and their students the opportunity to research the many contributions made by Latinos in children’s literature, science, history, and the arts; and to encourage students to value and celebrate family traditions, and culture. After researching a topic, teachers plan their project with their students and create a bulletin board project/exhibit to showcase what they learned in our school museum,” said Eddie Arellano, museum founder and coordinator. “Our purpose is to promote and celebrate diversity in our community and encourage other educators to create their own museums at their schools.”
