New Food Trucks Now Rolling To High School Campuses
Four new Fort Worth ISD Food Trucks rolled out this week District high schools, giving students fresh new complimentary culinary choices throughout the spring semester.
The innovative program, promoted as “A Taste You Can Roll With,” capitalizes on the popularity of food trucks and is designed to increase high school student satisfaction and meal participation. The four trucks, operated in a collaborative partnership with Sodexo Magic, will visit each FWISD high school during a Tuesday-Friday rotation (see chart).
The four truck concepts are Fort Worth Sliders, Mac Attack, Fort Worth Street Tacos and Wok Dis Way. Each of the trucks will have one concept for the week and visit four high schools each day. For example: Trucks 1-4 will visit Carter-Riverside, Arlington Heights, South Hills and Diamond Hills-Jarvis on Tuesday before going to Dunbar, Eastern Hills, North Side and Polytechnic on Wednesday, and so on.
Each concept has its own menu, as follows:
Fort Worth Sliders – All sliders served with coleslaw and fries
- Grilled Cheese Sliders with Tomato Soup
- Stockyard Beef Sliders with Turkey Bacon & Cheese
- Chicken & Waffle Sliders
Mac Attack – All bowls served with garlic knots, fries and Caesar salad
- Spicy Buffalo Chicken Bowl
- Smokey Cheese Bowl
- Carbonara Pasta Bowl with Turkey Bacon
Fort Worth Street Tacos ‐ All tacos served with black bean, corn salsa and Spanish rice
Condiments: Diced onions, diced jalapenos, salsa, sour cream,
Shredded cheese
- Beef carne tacos
- Pork carnitas tacos
- Chicken tacos
- Super Salad Taco Bowl
Wok Dis Way – All entrees served with fried rice and stir fry veggies
- Sweet Tai Chili Chicken
- Sweet & Sour Orange Chicken
- Mongolian Beef Bowl
- Mandarin Savory Salad
In addition to the unique menus, all of the trucks will serve milk, bottled water, oranges and apples. All food truck menus will meet or exceed national School Lunch Program (NSLP) standards and comply with the meal reimbursement.
The trucks are also set up to be convenient for student use. Initially, ordering will be “cashless,” with no charge to students, to expedite and maximize the student service experience. Food costs will be subsidized by FWISD and the NSLP.
Lunch will be served between 10:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m., in keeping with current high school meal periods, from Tuesday-Friday. (Monday is reserved for cleaning, maintenance and food preparation.) The expectation is each truck with serve 200-250 lunches for approximately two fours, with the four trucks feeding up to 1,000 students per day.
The food trucks will be housed at the Child Nutrition Services Building when not in use, and will be loaded and unloaded daily at Paschal High School. Paschal’s second kitchen serves as a commissary for all the food trucks. Each high school will have a designated food truck location.
The program grew out of a District desire to introduce innovation and create excitement around the culinary arts alongside Sodexo Magic. A combination of FWISD and Sodexo employees will operate the trucks.
Program officials anticipate growth in future years, such as FWISD students participating in menu design and/or working on the trucks.
