RISE Students Win Big in Special Olympics Basketball Individual Skills Competition

FWISD RISE students went home with bronze, silver, and gold medals after participating in the Special Olympics Area Competition in Arlington, Texas! Fifty-five students from 10 different schools participated in the competition March 2 and 4.

Participating schools included:

  • Arlington Heights HS
  • Burton Hill ES
  • Carter Riverside HS
  • East Handley ES
  • McLean MS
  • Seminary Hills Park ES
  • South Hills HS
  • Southwest HS
  • Westpark ES

Students played against other schools from the metroplex in games of 3 on 3 and Unified, which consisted of students from the general education classroom and students from the RISE class.

There are still several big events coming up for RISE students in the spring, from being recognized at the TCU Unified Basketball Game April 20 to the Special Olympics Summer Games (May 18 -21), where 20 athletes compete in the State Competition and earn a letter jacket.
