State Bilingual Educators Conference
Fort Worth ISD Superintendent Kent Paredes Scribner served on a school leadership panel to discuss bilingual education policies and programs at the Texas Association for Bilingual Education (TABE) state conference in Dallas. The Distinguished School Leaders Panel discussed “Diminishing State Resources: Policy/Program Implications for Improving EL Outcomes.” The panel was held Thursday, Oct. 11 at the Hilton Anatole Hotel in Dallas.
TABE is a statewide organization of bilingual education professionals dedicated to enhancing learning outcomes for English learners through bilingual and ESL education programs. TABE members were in Dallas October 10-13 for their 46th annual state conference. This year’s conference theme was “Estamos Unidos: Strengthened by Our Differences.”
The Distinguished School Leaders Panel was highly anticipated as one of the most important discussions of the conference because of its examination of policy and program implications for the academic achievement of English learners. The panel featured superintendents from Dallas-Fort Worth and was moderated by President & CEO of the Intercultural Development Research Association Dr. Maria “Cuca” Robledo Montecel.
The panel sought to address the issue of diminishing state resources and the challenges of educating more than 1 million children of the 5.3 million students enrolled in Texas public schools who are English learners.
Other speakers during the conference represented organizations such as Dallas County Community College District, Dallas Association for Hispanic School Administrators, and League of United Latin American Citizens.
The mission of TABE is to pursue the implementation of educational policies and effective bilingual-bicultural programs that promote equal educational opportunity and academic excellence for Bilingual/ESL students. The organization is headquartered in San Antonio, with membership open to teachers, administrators, college students, parents and other educators.
